BARBARA H. BRIGHTWELL, D.MIN.

Barbara H. Brightwell, D.Min.

In addition to her work with Georgetown Health Foundation, Dr. Brightwell also serves on the St. David’s Georgetown Hospital Advisory Board and St David’s Community Health Foundation. She was Chair of the Steering Committee that created The Georgetown Project, Chair of the Board of the Georgetown Community Resource Center, and now a board member of the Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County and Senior University of Georgetown.

Dr. Brightwell’s past service includes Director of Volunteer Services and the Pastoral Care Program for Georgetown Healthcare System and Georgetown Hospital. She has more than 40 years of experience in counseling and guidance, including serving as a Principal of an educational organization n Houston and Dean for Student Development at Southwestern University in Georgetown. She was also instrumental in establishing the Georgetown Community Clinic (Lone Star Circle of Care).

Through her unwavering commitment to the Georgetown community, Dr. Brightwell has been honored with a number of recognitions and awards: Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, “Citizen of the Year,” Williamson County “Citizen of the Year,” Texas Hospital Trustees “Outstanding Board Member of the Year,” the Central Texas Conference Bishop’s Award for exemplary service in the field of ecumenism, and the Paul Harris Fellow from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Dr. Brightwell has a Bachelor of Business of Administration, Masters in Education / Counseling and a Doctorate of Ministry.

Doak Fling

Doak Fling has a history of service to the residents of Georgetown and Williamson County through his work with numerous civic and non-profit organizations. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Georgetown Health Foundation, and is a member of the GHF Finance & Audit Committee. He served as a member of the Georgetown Healthcare Foundation Board and on the GHF Investment Committee.

He serves on the Board of Metro YMCA of Williamson County, and Children at Heart Foundation. Additionally, he is serving as a Board member on the Citizen’s Advisory to Williamson County Juvenile Services, and the Floyd Carlson Charitable Trust.Doak is a member at First Baptist in Georgetown, and a member of the Round Rock Rotary Club.

Doak has held leadership positions in the community including, but not limited to, Board member of Texas Baptist Children’s Home, Past President of Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, and Past President of Georgetown Industrial Foundation. He is also Past President of “Keep Georgetown Best” for the City of Georgetown and past Council Member for the City of Georgetown. He has served as Past President of First National Bank of Georgetown and has received numerous professional awards related to banking and investment services.

STEPHEN D. SCHAEFER, O.D.

Stephen D. Schaefer, O.D.

Dr. Schaefer has served on the Board of Directors of Georgetown Healthcare System for over 20 years and as Board Chair for more than 15 years. Throughout his career, Dr. Schaefer served the families of Georgetown and the surrounding communities with compassion, professional care and understanding.

He has assisted in coordinating the Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) in the Central Texas area. TMOM is a traveling organization that provides vision, dental and basic health examinations for those without health coverage.

Dr. Schaefer’s dedication to the community goes beyond healthcare. Dr. Schaefer was an active member of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Posse for more than 20 years, also serving as their captain for 5 years.

He has served as Director of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Director of Mary Bailey Child Development Center in Georgetown.

He served on the Planning Committee for the development of the City of Georgetown logo, the Planning Committee for “Keep Georgetown Best”. He was a Charter Member of the Sun City Rotary Club and the Georgetown Jaycees.

He is a member of the American Foundation for Vision; Texas Optometric Association; American Optometric Association; and Central Texas Optometric Society.

DALE ILLIG

Dale Illig

Dale Illig is an Attorney with 34 years of experience in private practice in Georgetown, Texas. He specializes in real estate, probate, estate planning, business law, trust administration, non-profits and charitable foundations.

Dale currently serves as President of the W.D. Kelley Foundation and is a member of the Georgetown Rotary. He is the past President of the Williamson County Bar Association and past Chair and member of the State Bar of Texas 8C Grievance Committee.

Dale is a native Texan and is a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and his interests include videography, photography, sailing, gardening, walking, reading and music.

He graduated with a Business Associate Degree from the University of Texas and subsequently received a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas. He volunteered with the Peace Corps in India in 1969-1972.

AUSTIN BRYAN

Austin Bryan

Austin Bryan moved to Georgetown from Bryan, Texas in January 2006. Having been born and raised in Bryan, Austin got his start in banking at the First National Bank of Bryan, which had been owned and managed by the Bryan family since 1862. As a 1995 graduate of Texas A&M University with a BA in Finance, Austin has been employed in the banking industry for over 22 years, specializing in commercial banking and real estate lending. Austin is currently employed as a Senior Vice President in commercial banking with Texas Capital Bank in Austin, the city named for his uncle. A lifelong community volunteer, Austin served as Chair of the Boys and Girls Club of Georgetown from June 2006 to December 2009 and continues to serve on that Board. Austin is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Georgetown and currently serves as the Chair of the Georgetown Economic Development Advisory Board.

Austin has been married to wife Rebecca for 15 years and they have one son, Will, age 13. The family attends Crestview Baptist Church. Austin’s interests include golf, hunting, fishing and taxidermy.

KAREN COLE

Karen Cole

Karen returned to Georgetown in 2004 after almost 40 years in the banking industry. Karen retired as a Regional Executive of Bank of American Private Bank. Her areas of responsibility included Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

During her banking career in Houston she served on several boards and was President of the Houston Estate and Financial Forum, President of Houston Estate Planning Council and an officer of Texas Bankers Association. She served as Chairman of the Trust Division of the Texas Bankers Association. She was selected by Texas Executive Women as one of the outstanding women business leaders in Houston.

Since her return to Georgetown, Karen has been Chairman of the Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: Lone Star Circle of Care, Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation, Boys and Girls Club, Williamson County Coordinated Child Care and Seeds of Strength, a Women’s Giving Circle.

Karen has a B.A. degree from Baylor University, a J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law and a Thesis with distinction from SMU Graduate School of Banking.Taylor.

ALMA GUZMAN

Alma Guzman

Alma Guzman has a dedication to education and teacher innovation. She currently serves as the Human Resource Director at Georgetown Independent School District. She is the past Principal at both Village Elementary and Frost Elementary Schools. She was a classroom Language Arts Teacher/Theater Arts Teacher, Director of Parent Network, Director of Federal Programs, and Community Liaison for Parental Involvement and Dropout Prevention.

Alma is a member of the St. David’s Medical Center Board of Directors and is a past member of the Georgetown Partners In Education Board, GISD District Performance Council, Georgetown Project Board of Advisors and Georgetown Task Force on Teen Pregnancy.

Alma received her Superintendant Certification from Texas Tech University, a Masters Degree in Education Administration from Southwest Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Texas A&I University. Alma holds certificates in English, 6-12; Speech Communications, 6-12; Principal, Pk-12 and Superintendent, Pk-12.

Alma participates in many professional organizations including Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators, Toastmasters of Georgetown, Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

LARRY J. HEMENES

Larry J. Hemenes

Larry Hemenes has more than 35 years experience in financial and administrative leadership. His financial and administrative expertise in health care is a combination of service in rural and suburban community health care facilities in Texas.

For approximately 15 years he served as Chief Financial Officer of Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown Healthcare System and its affiliates. Most recently he served as Chief Financial Officer of St. David’s Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown.

Larry has also served in numerous leadership positions with civic and non-profit organizations in Texas including Georgetown and Williamson County.

Larry is a Past Board Member of Georgetown Area United Way and the Georgetown Information and Volunteer Exchange (G.I.V.E.). He is Past Chair of Texas Agriculture Extension Service Advisory Board of Williamson County.

He is a 1995 graduate of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce “Leadership Georgetown” program. He also served as Past Chair and Board Member of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. He served as Board Member and Past Chair of the Georgetown Partners in Education (P.I.E.); served as Board member and Treasurer of The Georgetown Caring Place. Larry Hemenes currently serves on the Investment Sub-Committee for the Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation.

He is a Past Board Member of the Texas Association for Healthcare Financial Administration (T.A H. F. A.) which is an affiliate of Texas Hospital Association and Advanced member of Healthcare Financial Management Association.

DARRICK MCGILL

Darrick

Darrick McGill is a businessman serving the Georgetown community with expertise in finance and economics. He currently serves as a member of the following organizations, St. David’s Georgetown Hospital Advisory Board, St. David’s Foundation – Community Health Access Committee, International Association of Registered Financial Consultants, and Rotary Club of Georgetown.

Darrick is a past Chair of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and a Past Chair for Georgetown Partners In Education.

Darrick has received Professional Honors from the Austin Business Journal as one of the Top Investment Brokerage Firms and one of the Top Money Management Firms.

Darrick has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point, New York graduating on the Dean’s List. He served as a Captain in the US Army and is currently an Aviation Warrant Officer in the US Army Reserve. Currently, Darrick is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Financial Planning from the College of Financial Planning.

He has earned a license or holds a certificate as an Accredited Wealth Management Advisor, SM; a Registered Financial Consultant (RFC), Personal Financial Planning, FINRA registered Principal & Registered Representative and is an Agent in Texas General Lines for Life, Accident & Health and Property and Casualty. Darrick also holds commercial pilot ratings for airplanes and helicopters

LINDA MEIGS

Linda Frasher Meigs, Child and Mental Health Advocate, has served the community in various capacities.  She served on the Georgetown ISD Safe School/Health Students (SS/HS) grant writing team; was employed by GISD as the Student Support Services Coordinator funded by the SS/HS initiative; was the district-wide SAIL Coordinator (Student Assistance & Intervention Liaison); is a member of The Georgetown Project Community Collaborative and was editor-in-chief for their 2007 Snapshot of Children and Youth; is a member and past chair of the Georgetown ISD School Health Advisory Council and serves on the GISD District Performance Council; was past president of the Texas Association of Student Assistance Professionals and has served as a “consumer advocate” to the Texas Mental Health Transformation Initiative’s School-Based Behavioral Health Action Team.

Ms. Meigs’ achievements have been acknowledged in many ways including, GISD Partners-in-Education Volunteer of the Year Award in 1998-99, an invitation to make a presentation entitled Coaching the Attention Deficit Player at the United States Youth Soccer Workshop and Coaching Convention inPhiladelphia; and GISD SAIL earning the 2003 National Student Assistance Association Program of Excellence Award under her leadership.

Ms. Meigs currently serves on the Advisory Board of the UCLA Center for Mental Health in Schools and was recently appointed to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services Achieving Successful Systems Enriching Texas (ASSET) Steering Team.  Ms. Meigs also serves on the Williamson County Mental Health Committee and was co-leader for the 2011 “First Annual” Williamson County Mental Health in Schools Conference.

Linda has resided in the City ofGeorgetownfor 26 years.  She has been married to husband, Danny, for 37 years.  They have one (adult) daughter, Jennifer.

RICHARD PEARCE, M.D.

Richard Pearce, M.D.

Richard P. “Dick” Pearce, M.D. moved to Georgetown in 1972 to work in the Georgetown medical community.  After 38 years of Family Practice medicine, Dr. Pearce retired from his practice.

Dr. Pearce originally from Jacksonville, Florida, received a degree in Biology from Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana as a Medical Doctor.   Dr. Pearce served as a Flight Surgeon with the USAF 57th Military Airlift Command after completing an internship at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Following his military service, he worked at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas for his Family Practice residency.

Over his years in practice, he has served as the Chair of Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Ob/Pediatric Committee and Credentials Committee for Georgetown Hospital. He is Board qualified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a Life member of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Pearce and his wife, Barbara, married in 1968 at Winters, Texas and are active in First United Methodist Church in Georgetown.   His interests include gardening, fishing, hunting and his two grandchildren.

JAKE SCHRUM

Jake Schrum

Jake Schrum is a native Texan who has served as Administrator of two major research Universities and three Liberal Arts Colleges. In January 2000, Schrum was elected President of Southwestern University and took office on July 1, 2000. He is widely recognized as an author and speaker in the field of educational advancement and moral leadership in higher education. Schrum received his B.A. in psychology in 1968 from Southwestern University, where he served as president of the Student Government Association. That same year, he enrolled in the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. While at SMU, Schrum and his spouse, Jane Woodman Schrum, served as residence hall parents for first-year male students.

In his many civic, professional, and community service activities, Schrum has served as Chair of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education which is the world’s largest international education association. He is former Chair of the Board of the Associated Colleges of the South, the Southern University Conference, Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, the Chisholm Trail Communities Foundation, and The Georgetown Project. He serves on the Board of Richmond – The American International University in London, the Educational and Institutional Insurance Administrators, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities, the Texas Independent College Foundation, and First Texas Bank in Georgetown.

He serves on the Council of Presidents of the Association of Governing Boards. Most recently, he was named “Citizen of the Year” by Georgetown Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of Georgetown Health Foundation Board and serves on the GHF Governing & Nominating Committee.

Schrum is a member of the American Council on Education, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and other educational associations benefiting colleges and universities. Schrum is a consultant and a frequent lecturer on topics related to the advancement of higher education. He wrote a book titled Democracy’s Last Stand: The Role of the New Urban University. The Association of Governing Boards in Washington, D.C., published a book, edited by Schrum, titled A Board’s Guide to Comprehensive Campaigns. He edited Justice for All for Southwestern University. He received the Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Southwestern University in 1991.
