From a very young age, Alma knew she wanted to make a difference. As a first generation college graduate, she experienced first-hand the lasting impact great teachers can have on young lives. It has been her heart’s calling to spend her life investing in the potential of others.
Alma’s 29 years in public education started as a middle school Language Arts Teacher in Corpus Christi ISD. After teaching for five years, she had the opportunity to serve as the district Community & Parent Liaison in Harlingen CISD working with schools on dropout prevention and parent/community involvement strategies. That experience sparked her passion to become a campus principal and to create a campus culture where students, staff and parents believed they were valued and supported.
Alma spent 12 years as an elementary principal in Georgetown ISD where she led three campuses and was asked to help design and open a brand new school. She was named a National Distinguished Principal Finalist for Texas by the Texas Elementary Principal and Supervisors Association in 2013 and then again in 2014. She also worked as a district administrator in Georgetown ISD serving as a Human Resource Director and later as the Executive Director of Professional Learning, overseeing the professional learning of teachers, administrators and other professionals in the district.
Alma began working as a Leadership Development Strategist for the Flippen Group in 2018, after retiring from Georgetown ISD. She enjoys working with schools and districts from Texas and other states.
