Steve West grew up in southeast Texas. He graduated in 1972 from Lamar University with a BBA in accounting. He began his school finance career in Beaumont, Texas, as the controller for the regional education service center.
Steve enjoyed over 35 years in full-time service as a public school finance officer in various districts in Texas. He retired as the chief financial officer for Allen ISD in 2007. He spent two years working in Austin for a Wall Street firm as an investment banker. After leaving the banking field, Steve served as the interim chief financial officer for three different school districts with the latest being Georgetown ISD. He currently consults with school districts on financial matters.
Steve enjoys serving in his professional organization, Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). He has served as director and officer for TASBO. He was president for the organization in 2005-2006. He led the organization’s Governmental Relations committee for several years. In 2015, he was the recipient of the TASBO Commitment to Excellence Award in recognition for his many years of service in public school finance.
Steve believes in giving back to the community. He has served as a mentor for elementary students. For the past four years, he and his wife have led a 12-week class for the area pregnancy resource center. He is active as a leader in his church.
