Bob Stern is a Williamson County native. He has practiced internal medicine, clinical pathology and anatomic pathology in Williamson and Travis Counties for more than 30 years. During that time, he has served on numerous community, hospital and clinic committees, associations and task forces. He has served on state and national boards, committees, and task forces for the American College of Physicians and the College of American Pathologists.
Bob grew up in Hutto, Texas, and graduated from Hutto High School. He received a B.A. degree from Southwestern University. He received an M.D. degree from the University of Texas Medical School Branch in Galveston. He became board certified in internal medicine after residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and board certified in clinical and anatomic pathology after residency training at Duke University. Bob has served as chief of Internal Medicine at Seton Medical Center. He served as Medical Director of the Georgetown Hospital Laboratory for almost 15 years. He is currently Medical Director of the Austin Diagnostic Clinic Laboratory and President of Austin Pathology Associates. Bob is an assistant clinical professor of medicine in the Texas A&M College of Medicine and a principle investigator for the Aurora Research Institute. Bob’s chief interests are diagnostic anatomic pathology and patient safety initiatives through evidence-based laboratory practice and continuing performance improvement and quality assurance programs. He is the Chairman of the Infection Prevention Committee/Program at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital.
Bob is married. He and his wife, Karin, have three children and four grandchildren. They are also owners of Split Mesquite Farm which provides boarding and training services for dressage horses and riders. In association with Concordia Dressage, they have a developing program utilizing mindfulness techniques in both dressage training and for life in general. Bob and Karin are long-term members of Hutto Lutheran Church.
